The Parent Photo

I always task myself with taking photos on a wedding day that the couple may never had asked for. I do this mainly for prosperity’s sake and because I just know they’ll be appreciated after the event, and most likely the thought of the photo didn’t cross the couples mind until maybe after the day itself.

One of these ‘task’ photos is the parent shot. Whilst its always likely you’ll be planning your group photos to include your parents, quite often I’m not asked to capture just a photo of your parents on their own. So if time allows I always make a point of asking them for a quick photo together at some point in the day. It’s become such a routine now that sometimes my second shooter (usually Gemma!) has beaten me to it, but we’re always sure to try and get these shots before we leave in the evening.

Parents are always surprised, but happy to oblige as after all they’ve probably spent a lot of money on that ‘mother-of-the-groom’ outfit, and they’re looking their very best to see their son/daughter tie the knot. It’s a big day for them too, and I’m a big believer that the day shouldn’t pass by without letting them have a little time in the limelight too…
